major tom coffee cup

everyone knows the iconic New York coffee cup, the design was released in 1963 to appeal to the predominately greek coffee shop owners and slowly become the standard to the point where 180 million are sold each year.

what is not so well known is that during the 80's other designs were made to appeal to the changing market. the solo cop company produced this design to for the younger coffee drinkers now flocking to coffee shops and cafes like never before. while rare this design is still in production and used at select shops in and around soho and the lower east side.

there is a rumor that bowie will only drink his coffee from these 'major tom' cups but to me this sounds a bit too far fetched
